Historical Tour and Dining Experience
Historical Tour and Dining Experience for Groups Only
Service Description
4 Hours 30 Mins (35 Person Minimum) This step-on tour for large groups introduces you to the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman in Dorchester County (known as Araminta/Minty Ross in her early years). Here she was born and enslaved until age 27 when she escaped to freedom. We begin in Cambridge and travel to the Courthouse (site of Harriet’s first rescue) and Long Wharf, where the enslaved were transported by ship. We also see the “Take My Hand Mural,” painted on the Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center building. Traveling into Tubman Country, we narrate the story of the Stanley Institute, a historic African American one-room schoolhouse and visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center. You will see the Brodess Farm, her childhood home, and the Bucktown General Store where Araminta was hit by a 2-lb. weight thrown at her head -- the storied source of spiritual visions leading to her freedom. Lunch is prepared at the Harriet Tubman Freedom 3030 Center Drive Cambridge, MD. Choose from fried chicken, ham and turkey; home-cooked vegetables; salads and dessert. In season, we also offer a BBQ & crab feast with an option for crab cakes (added cost; call for pricing). The tour begins at the Harriet Tubman Freedom Center, 3030 Center Dr. Cambridge, MD where you will meet your Historical Interpreter.
